They are designed with input from water sports enthusiasts, extra roomy for your wetsuit, made of soft towel materials and often equipped with practical details such as pockets or a hood to keep you dry in a cool sea breeze. What is the advantage of a poncho compared to a towel?
A poncho is much more convenient for kitesurfing than a standard towel, especially if you do not have a changing room available. A poncho is thicker and warmer than a regular towel and made of materials that dry quickly and block wind more effectively. And as a bonus, you can keep relaxing in it after your session without having to put your clothes on immediately. When the moment comes to take off your wetsuit, a poncho gives you more warmth, privacy and comfort to quietly get changed. This means no more awkward towel moments on the beach hoping no one is watching your balancing act. With a poncho you stay much warmer, more comfortable and more stylish.
How fast does a poncho dry after use?
How fast a poncho dries depends on the material and of course the weather conditions. A microfibre poncho dries super fast, ideal if you travel a lot or do multiple sessions in a day. Just hang it up and it is ready again in no time. Terry cloth ponchos are thicker and usually feel warmer, but they take a bit longer to dry. Perfect to stay warm in after your session, but less suitable if you need something that dries quickly. Want a poncho that dries quickly and is compact to take with you on a kite trip? Then a microfibre poncho is your go to. In any case, hanging it out properly after use helps keep your poncho fresh and dry for your next session.
How should I wash my poncho?
To enjoy your poncho for as long as possible proper care is important. Wash your poncho preferably at 30 degrees in the washing machine with a mild detergent. Avoid using fabric softener as it reduces the absorbency of the fabric. Do you have a microfibre poncho? Then it is extra important not to use fabric softener or a dryer because it can damage the fibre structure. Let your poncho dry on a hanger in a well ventilated area. Do not dry it in direct sunlight to prevent discolouration. And it might go without saying, but do not put your poncho in the dryer. This keeps your poncho soft, fresh and ready for your next session.
